Uhlhorn Trail is adjacent to the Big Snowy Mountains, southeast of Lewistown, Montana. It's a challenging point-to-point hike near Crystal Lake. We suggest backpacking and making the trail over a couple of days, but you can only do part of the trail and treat it as an out and back adventure.
You can start or finish at either Crystal Lake or Red Hill Road. Be prepared for many creek crossings.
There are areas where the trail is not discernable, and the signage and markings are poor. There is tree debris, and the trail is not well maintained.
Come prepared with bear and bug spray. We recommend bringing at least four liters of water and the equipment to filter more from the creek.
Uhlhorn Trail is a beautiful area and a great hike for an expert adventurer.
