Quick Summary

Story

Trout Lake Trail is an easy loop in Yellowstone National Park. You start the trail with a 200 foot climb through dense forest. After the steep climb, the path turns into an easy walk the rest of the way to the lake.

The lake is beautiful; the trail is short and sweet.

If you want to fish (and you're 15 years old or older), you need a park-specific fishing permit.

If you want to extend your hike, you could venture off towards Shrimp Lake or Buck Lake.

The lake is not all people see on this hike; wildflowers and wildlife are abundant. Deer, elk, bear, buffalo, antelope, moose, geese, and even foxes have all been seen from the trail.
