The Great American Prairie Day Drive is a 138-mile drive from Wolf Creek to Browning, Montana. It features the northern Rocky Mountain Front and the surrounding prairie lands.
The drive begins in tall ponderosa pines and closes in winding sage land east of Glacier National Park. The entire drive features charming ranching communities. It also offers fantastic opportunities to venture off the path for some sightseeing and hiking.
You can take the drive in its entirety over about three hours, or you can extend it for a couple of days for a weekend full of adventure!
The drive highlights the Sun River Game Preserve, Pine Butte Swamp Preserve, Teton Pass Ski Area, Egg Mountain, Scapegoat Wilderness Area, and the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area.
Optional excursions include the Mortimer Gulch National Recreation Trail, Sun River Recreation and Wildlife Management Area, Freezout Lake, Our Lake (also known as Hidden Lake Trail), Clary Coulee Trail, and Green Gulch Trail.
Some camping opportunities in the area are the Choteau RV Park and Campground, Home Gulch Campground, Wood Lake and Benchmark Campground, Mortimer Gulch Campground, South Fork Campground, Cave Mountain Campground, Elko Campground, Mill Falls (or Hidden Lake) Campground, and West Fork Campground.
