Quick Summary

Story

Smith Creek Trail is a beautiful hike in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex in Augusta, Montana.

The last mile of road to the trailhead can be rough and bumpy. If the ground is wet 4-weel drive may be necessary to make it.

The first two miles of this trail are on privately owned land. Please be respectful of the landowner and stay on the trail. We want to continue to ensure future adventures on the trail.

The first few miles cross the creek multiple times and will require you to ford. Lower Smith Creek features numerous waterfalls and great areas for swimming or wading in the water.

You will see great mountain peaks and large aspen groves from this trail. It is a gorgeous area!

This trail offers excellent opportunities for solitude, wildlife viewing, and swimming in the Bob.

From Augusta, take Montana Secondary Highway 434 southwest for 3.6 miles, turn right (west) onto the Smith Creek Road 215 and follow it for about 12 miles to the Smith Creek Trailhead.
