This fun drive skirts Tower Rock State Park and crosses Hardy Bridge, following the Missouri River most of the time. Admire the canyon and rock formations before it flattens out to farmland. Bighorn sheep, deer, and hawks often frequent the area.
Directions, coming from Cascade/Great Falls: From the I15, take exit 247 for Hardy Creek and get on Old US 91 (it turns into Craig Frontage Road), drive 20 miles to Wolf Creek Bridge, then turn on Beartooth Road towards Holter Lake. Beartooth Road winds back another 7 miles to the head of Holter Lake at Departure Point Campground, passing several recreation areas and campgrounds along the way. Note: Beartooth Road narrows and turns to dirt after about 5.5 miles, still totally doable even in a car, but if you don't want to drive on dirt turn around before this point.
This is a great drive to do in the evening, take along a picnic dinner and linger for a while.
