River's Edge Trail is a loved trail system in Great Falls, Montana. It's an incredibly versatile trail system that stretches nearly 60 miles along both sides of the Missouri River.
The Great Falls community uses the trail system for biking, jogging, in-line skating, mountain biking, and walking.
The system features both paved and singletrack dirt trails. You can experience spectacular views of the mountains, prairies, river canyons, waterfalls, reservoirs, and hydroelectric dams from the trail system. You can choose to stay in the historic downtown area and explore the town more through the numerous parks, dining options, and attractions the system encompasses.
The trail is about 55 miles long, which is broken into about 3 miles of concrete trail, 20 miles of asphalt trail, and 32 miles of single-track trail.
There is plenty of places to relax too. There are rest areas, benches, and picnic shelters along the river. You can stop and enjoy a picnic with your family, feed the ducks at Gibson Park, or visit the Fish Hatchery at Giant Springs State Park.
The system features 18 different public art pieces, a panoramic view of Great Falls through a free telescope at the Warden Park Gazebo, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, one of the world's largest freshwater springs, and the shortest river in the world.
Along the trail, you'll come across six tunnels, 15 Bridges, and 13 underpasses. There are several parks and basketball, disc golf, and tennis courts on the trail system for the community to use and enjoy.
There are 22 different parking areas, and trailheads along the river, the ones provided below are to the Riverside Railyard Skate Park trailhead. From here, you can venture east and explore as much or as little of the trails as you desire.
