These free campsites are part of a dirt road complex called the Rat Lake Trailhead and is used by trucks and trailers as a starting point for their OHV (4 wheelers, dirt bikes, etc.) adventures. There are about 4 or 5 established sites that have been built by campers. There are no metal fire rings or picnic tables but there is an outhouse for public use so it's kind of a hybrid-primitive type campsite. There is lots of room to maneuver trailers and room for lots of tents all over the area. The creek water is easily accessible from every camp site and the area was frequently patrolled by law enforcement Forest Rangers. There were not a lot of flying bugs to bother us in July.
