Pompeys Pillar National Monument Loop is a walking path to a rock formation in Yellowstone County near Billings, Montana.
You walk past Pompeys Pillar Visitor center from well-maintained boardwalks to see William Clark's signature at the top of Pompeys Pillar. This carving is evidence the Lewis and Clark expedition visited the pillar. The pillar was used throughout the 1800s to record passages of railroad workers, military personal, trappers, and early settlers.
This walking trail also offers a beautiful, close-up view of the Yellowstone River. After seeing the carvings of Captain Clark, you can explore around the river or visit the interpretive center to learn more about the history of the area.
Bug spray is a must around the river!
