Quick Summary

Story

Middle Fork Teton River Trail is in the Lewis and Clark National Forest near Choteau, Montana. The area is well-loved by Montana locals for camping and hiking.

It's a beautiful and challenging climb. This is an all-day, out-and-back trail, so we recommend camping at the Cave Mountain Campground at the trailhead after your adventure.

This is bear country, so come prepared with bear spray and make lots of noise on your trek. The trail also features a waterfall, but the bugs can be nasty around the water, so bug spray is a must!

Come prepared with the right gear for a strenuous hike. Good hiking boots and poles are recommended. If you have poor knees, the climb is rough, but the descent is often worse. Only venture as far as you can return.

To get there, go straight on paved North Fork Teton Canyon Road for about three miles to the Cave Mountain Recreation Area. Turn left and cross the bridge. Continue to the Middle Fork Teton trailhead at the end of the road, past Cave Mountain Campground.
