Quick Summary

Story

Mammoth Hot Springs Trail is an easy trail in Yellowstone National Park, near Gardiner, Montana. It features a waterfall and the Mammoth Hot Springs.

There are areas with steep staircases, which makes most of the trail not wheelchair accessible.

The hot springs cascade over natural mineral deposit terraces. You get a unique front-row seat to the lower terraces from boardwalks. The boardwalks are the best and closest view of the fantastic hot springs.

The end of the loop (the upper terraces) follows a busy road. Some people drive too fast on this road, and there is nothing to separate you from the oncoming traffic. This is a family-friendly loop but has the potential to be a little scary when walking with kiddos around moving cars. If you wanted to skip this part entirely, you could turn around instead of finishing the loop.

The area has limited parking and is very popular among tourists. It's best seen before 9 am if you are trying to avoid the crowds.
