Quick Summary

Story

The Madison Valley road trip is about 72 miles from Ennis to West Yellowstone, Montana. The beautiful drive parallels the Madison River. There are spectacular views of the mountains, lush valleys, and plenty of little towns to stop in and explore.

Gallatin Peak, Lone Mountain, and Sphinx Peak can be seen to the east, Black Butte Mountain to the west, and Hollowtop Mountain to the north. The road trip also features Ennis Lake, Quake Lake, Hebgen Lake, Howard Spring, Indian Creek, and Wolf Creek.

There are world-class fly-fishing and river access points along the route that we recommend stopping for. The Madison River presents excellent fishing opportunities with a diverse trout population.

You can extend your journey past the necessary two hours, explore the area for a couple of days, and make the drive a long weekend.

Campgrounds from Ennis to West Yellowstone include the Madison Campground, the Riverview Campground, the Ruby Creek Campground, the Palisades Campground, and several others.

There are also hiking opportunities on the road trip. Two trails that are on the route are the Mile Creek Trailhead and the Buttermilk Trailhead.

Use caution when driving, wear your seatbelt, and don't exceed the speed limit.
