Lewis and Clark Pass Trail is a rocky path in Helena National Forest, near Lincoln, Montana.
The base of the trail is in an area of forest that has been subject to fires in recent years. The path begins to climb shortly after the trailhead and then continues to climb steadily until reaching the top of the rise. From there, you have terrific views of the Rocky Mountain Front.
The rise is also a historical site. In 1806 Meriwether Lewis used this spot to cross the Continental Divide. There's a sign to tell you when you've reached this spot (also, enjoy the wildflowers!).
For the whole three and a half miles, you will weave in and out of burned areas and beautiful grasslands. About halfway up, you'll cross a small spring.
There are also opportunities for you to hike longer, if desired. You can choose to hike north towards Red Mountain or south towards Green Mountain along the ridgeline.
