Helena National Forest Skidway Campground is in Townsend, Montana. It is a great campground if you are looking for solitude in the beautiful forest.
There are 12 sites along the ridge above Deep Creek Canyon. The whole site is lined with Douglis Fir and Aspen trees.
Each site has a table and a fire ring. There are also vault toilets and potable water available. Despite being a very appealing campground, it's lightly trafficked.
Because you're deep in the wilderness and the area isn't busy, it's essential to practice safe food storage and bring bear spray.
The area is gorgeous, with amazing views of snow-capped Mount Edith most of the year.
The site acts as a trailhead for the Skidway Campground Loop. The trail follows the Skidway Crosscountry ski trail. The trail, like the campground, is not heavily trafficked, so be sure and follow the Blue Diamond trail markers.
