Quick Summary

Story

Hall Lake Trail is in the Swan Valley area, near Bigfork, Montana. This hike is a change of pace if you're in the area and want something more than the busy Holland Lake area.

The trail is a gradual incline, but the overgrowth in some areas can make getting to the lake complex. You'll be hiking through a vast field of fallen trees and then a thick, brushy forest until getting to the remote lake.

About two miles in, you'll have to cross the creek that the trail follows. So bring extra socks or brave the water barefoot. After fording the stream, huckleberry bushes line the trail.

The wildlife in the area is abundant and active. People see wild turkeys, deer, bald eagles, bears. The lake is usually full of trout if you get that far. The area around the lake is heavily overgrown, so it can take some bushwhacking to get to the shore.

You'll be in shade for most of the hike, so it may be cool (dress in layers). There's dense vegetation at your ankles for most of the climb, so we recommend long pants. We also recommend bug and bear spray. The closer you get to the water, the worse the bugs are.

A well-used campsite is at the end of the trail if you want to stay by the lake for longer.
