Quick Summary

Story

Lion and Grayling Lakes Trail is in the Pioneer Mountains (southwest Montana). It's an excellent hike with incredible views and fishing opportunities.

The trail starts by crossing Canyon Creek and continues to follow it for about 2 miles. The initial part of the trail is flat and relatively easy. You'll pass through beautiful forest and meadow areas before crossing Lion Creek.

After crossing the creek, the trail begins gaining elevation. The trail from the valley floor to the lakes is switchbacked to help with the elevation gain.

You'll ascend for about a mile before reaching Grayling Lake. Lion Lake is only about 1000 feet from Grayling Lake, and it offers new views and sandy beaches you should see.

If you want to stay overnight in the area, there are spots you could pitch a tent off the trail and a campground at the trailhead.

We suggest bringing bear and bug spray on this trek.
