Emerald and Heather Lake Trail

Emerald and Heather Lake Trail is on Hyalite Canyon road near Bozeman, Montana.

This is a stunning hike! The trail features two lakes nestled between mountain peaks that are surrounded by alpine meadows.

The trail is steep in the beginning but levels out when you get to the first lake. The first 4 miles of the hike aren't ideal for camping, but there are nice tent spots and fire pits at the lakes. Because this area is so beautiful, there may be competition for the best camping spots. We recommend going early to beat the crowds.

Emerald Lake offers some great fishing. The lake is filled every year, so we hope you have some luck catching an Arctic Grayling or two.
