Quick Summary

Story

Edith Baldy Basin Trail is a great backpacking trail near Townsend, Montana. The trail is not easy; there are some steep sections. This trail is popular because it's beautiful and pretty manageable over two or three days.

The trail is hardpacked and well maintained. We recommend doing the hike in late July or August. Up until late summer, there is still snow coverage on the trail.

Once you reach the ridge crest, you can veer to Edith Peak or continue on the trail which drops down to Edith Lake.

There is excellent camping at Hidden and Edith Lake. The whole area is covered in gorgeous alpine scenery.
