Dawson Pass and Pitamakan Pass Loop is a trail located in Glacier National Park near East Glacier Park Village, Montana.
Parking is easy here.
This is a hard trail; don't underestimate it! You can easily get caught in the dense forest in the middle of the night if you are not deliberate in your planning.
It's cold so layers are a must! The steep elevation gain is grueling and seems unrelenting! In order not to lose your toenails, large hiking boots and thick socks are required! You should bring plenty of food and water (without adding too much weight to your pack). I suggest a filter that you can use for water at some of the many springs you'll encounter. There are bears and moose so be bear aware!
While difficult, you'll appreciate the splendor of the views and the entirety of the whole experience if you can finish.
I suggest taking this loop counterclockwise up to Pitamakan, which is less steep than the climb to Dawson Pass.
There are huckleberries all over this trail!
Overall, this trail is a mammoth in effort but the reward is totally worth it!
