Story

Crystal Cascades Trail is in the Big Snowy Mountains Wilderness Study Area near Lewistown, Montana. The Trail is rated difficult because it climbs 1,000 feet in only three miles.

There are multiple stream crossings on this trail. This means you will have to navigate across logs and slick, wet rocks. If you don't like wet feet, you may want to carry a spare pair of shoes and socks.

The different trails that branch off of this trail and the dense, old Spruce and Fir trees you hike through make navigating this trail challenging.

The ground is compact, but there are toe-catching rocks and large tree roots just waiting for you to get distracted every few feet.

The Crystal Cascades are gorgeous. It's a 100-foot tall waterfall on a limestone cliff. The freezing, Crystal clear water rolls over a rock wall. It's amazing! Be careful on the wet, mossy rocks as you try to get close.

The snow in early summer may inhibit this adventure. The best time to take this trail is in July and August.
