Cracker Lake Trail is in Glacier National Park in the Many Glacier area. It's loved by many! The lake is famous for its opaque turquoise color, and the view of Mount Siyeh rising 4,000 feet from the head of the lake is incredible!
The first few miles of the hike can be difficult. There might be lots of horse poop near the beginning of the trail. After rain or snow, the mud on the trail can make the initial climb worse. Once you get to Canyon Creek, the scenery gets prettier. Keep going and you'll be walking through wildflower meadows, surrounded by the mountains.
There are particularly dense areas of vegetation that make a bear surprise possible. Prepare as you would for any trail in Glacier and make lots of noise and carry bear spray.
You can also find the remnants of the historic Cracker Mine's equipment towards the end of the lake, about 0.3 miles beyond the spur trail to the campground.
To start the hike, park in the Many Glacier Lodge upper parking lot and follow the trailhead south of the lot. The GPS coordinates provided indicate you should keep left at the first fork of the trail.
This is a challenging hike worth the exertion because of the crystal blue lake awaiting you at the end!
