A very remote state park accessed by well-maintained (if a bit dusty) wide gravel roads.
Admittedly out in the middle of nowhere but a great country drive.
Come for the history but stay for the cute little creek that runs through the park.
A .75 mile loops takes you around the grounds and offers historical markers and information along the way.

"Who is Chief Plenty Coups?", you may ask. We can't tell you because we want you to come visit this park and find out for yourself! This park is packed with history and has a great little .75 mile hike around it. The creek that meanders the property keeps the area nice and green, standing out as an oasis among the plains. Bring a lunch and spend some dedicated time in the visitor's center where you'll learn a lot.

Costs

Montana residents who pay the $9 state parks fee with their annual vehicle registration have no daily entrance fees to state parks. For residents who don't include this in their vehicle registration, non-resident day use fees apply.

Best Times

Summer Hours: mid-May – mid-September. Open daily 8 am - 8 pm. Winter Hours: Wed-Sunday 8:00am to 5:00pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Visitor Center & Chief’s House 10 am - 5 pm. Closed all federal and state holidays except Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Park is also closed December 24th and 31st.
