Story

We were so happy to find this wonderful campsite! We were on a two-day drive exploring the history of the “Vigilante Trail” that encircles the Tobacco Root Mountains. And we'd just spent a few days in the hustle and bustle of the Bozeman area. When we started driving east out of Sheridan, MT on Mill Creek Road, we felt like we were 10,000 miles away from the fastest growing city in Montana! (We still love you Bozeman!)

The road started paved with interesting homes, and turned into a gravel road that led us to some amazing little adventures! Check out these other two adventures I posted, and you’ll see what I’m talking about! — Branham Lakes in the Tobacco Root Mountains and Smuggler Mine.

And we found this awesome spot to camp right off the road, and on the edge of Mill creek. The site seems big enough for a large group to spread out with a few tents and gather around the fire ring for their meals together.

The creek was peaceful with cold water even in July. There are signs about bear proof food storage, so be sure to correctly store food items! There’s also a hand pump for drinking water at the nearby forest service campground (Mill Creek Campground).

You should be able to get here easily by clicking on driving directions. But it may be helpful to know... Once you get to the end of Mill Creek Campground, and you see the sign that says "Narrow Road Not Suitable For Trailer Traffic"... just drive 0.3 miles more and this campsite will be on the left side of the road. We think this campsite could be suitable for shorter trailers, but that would be at your own risk.

Enjoy!
