Quick Summary

Story

Camas Lake Trail is a beautiful hike in the Bitterroot National Forest near Hamilton, Montana. It's an excellent hike to experience the Bitterroot Mountain Range.

The trail starts by winding around the mountain and quickly enters the canyon. The trail features a footbridge to cross Camas Creek. There is lots of shade in this area.

It can be hard to navigate the trail. It's not well marked, and it leads to Kidney Lake but veers off to the left before reaching Camas Lake.

The lake is fantastic, and there are places to set up camp if you want to stay the night. The impressive Camas Peak is right beyond the lake and makes for a beautiful backdrop to your destination.

To find the trailhead:

  • Take Highway 93 for approximately nine miles south of Hamilton
  • Turn West onto Lost Horse Road
  • After about two miles, veer right at the Forest Service sign for Camas Creek and Coyote Coulee
  • Follow the dirt road for about six miles

Oh! There are also beautiful huckleberries and raspberries growing on the trail for you to enjoy while you adventure!
