Quick Summary

Story

Burnette and New Year Peak Loop is in the Judith Mountains. It neighbors the Judith Mountain lodge and is maintained by the Bureau of Land Management.

We recommend taking the loop clockwise. The first mile is very steep, but the elevation gain is the same for over two miles if you hike in the other direction.

The middle three miles are relatively flat and overlook the entire Judith Mountain Range. The whole hike is scenic!

The trail is not easy, especially if you are a novice to this elevation gain, but it's doable for most folks.

The terrain is rocky, and you'll be navigating fallen trees, so watch your step.

There is a bathroom in the parking lot but no drinking water, so come prepared with plenty. We also recommend bringing bear and bug spray.
