The Bear Trap Canyon Trail is in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness within the Madison Range. The trail features the 6,000 acre Bear Trap Canyon drainage site.
The trail is long, with multiple things to see. You can extend this hike to be as long or short as you'd like. Bear Trap Creek is a popular place to turn around, but the trail officially ends at the Madison Dam Powerhouse. The hike is 7 miles round-trip to Bear Trap Creek or 15 miles round-trip to the dam.
There are many campsites on the trail if you want to explore the area for another day or two, but there's a 3-day camping limit.
We recommend carrying bear spray. ALSO, watch out for rattlesnakes and poison ivy while on the trail.
